How to Grab Attention in Sales the Right Way
November 5, 2026

Want to instantly grab attention like the top 1% of salespeople? Well… you’re in the wrong place. Because the “top 1%” thing isn’t real. It’s just clickbait people throw around to reel you in.
But if you want to learn how to actually stand out, spark real conversations, and create moments your prospects don’t forget, stick with me, because this isn’t some recycled cold call script or “7-figure subject line” hack.
What I’m about to share goes deeper than gimmicks. It’s about doing sales differently, and doing it right. The Rebel way. And to explain it properly, I’ve got to take you back a few thousand years.
The Shepherd Who Changed the Game
Over 3,000 years ago, there was a huge war between two countries. And in the middle of that war was one problem neither side could ignore: a massive warrior named Goliath.
This dude was a nightmare. Battle-tested, fearless, and practically undefeated. Everyone feared him. No one had the guts to face him. Until one day, a random kid stepped forward. David.
He wasn’t a soldier. Not even a trained fighter. He was just a young shepherd, carrying nothing but a slingshot and a few smooth stones. He didn’t wear armor, didn’t carry a sword, and simply wasn’t built for battle by anyone’s standards.
Goliath laughed. David didn’t. The giant charged right at him, but David stood his ground, aimed high, and knocked the giant flat on his face. With one shot.
Why This Story Still Matters in Sales Today
David didn’t win because he was stronger. He won because he chose to be different. He didn’t copy the tactics of everyone around him. He didn’t try to look like a warrior or act like a warrior. He used what he had and trusted in his own way of doing things.
And that, Rebel, is where most salespeople go wrong. They spend all their energy trying to fit into neat little boxes the status quo puts them in. Trying to follow the “top 1%” playbook. Trying to sound like every other rep with the same scripts, the same sequences, the same “just following up on my last email” garbage.
But the ones who actually get remembered, the ones who earn trust and open doors no one else can, do what David did. They choose a different path. They embrace creativity. They lead with empathy, boldness, and a little bit of slingshot energy.
If you clicked on this hoping to find a trick to boost your close rate or slap on the “top 1%” badge, I’m sorry, but you’re in the wrong place. I’ve been in sales for nearly two decades. Sold millions in copier contracts. And I never once followed what the “gurus” preached. What I did instead was simple:
- I asked the questions no one else was asking.
- I created outcomes no one else was offering.
- I gave experiences people still talk about years later.
And if I had to go back and do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. Because that’s how you grab attention in sales the right way. Here’s how you can do the same.
1. Breathe life into your pipeline
Your pipeline isn’t just a funnel. It’s not some static list of names or a checkbox to keep your manager happy. It’s a living, breathing system. A relationship ecosystem. And when you start treating it that way, everything changes.
Because in sales, time is the currency, and attention is the exchange. When you shift your mindset from “I need to book a meeting” to “I need to earn their time,” your process becomes more human and your results become more sustainable.
2. Use cold calls to help, not just to pitch
Every time someone picks up the phone, you have a choice: add value, or add noise. If your prospect’s having a bad day, will your call make it better? Will it leave them in a stronger place than they were before?
Instead of thinking about your product, think about your impact. When you start using calls as a way to serve, to elevate the moment, and to bring value without strings attached, your outcomes shift fast. Not because you’re “selling harder,” but because you’re showing up better.
3. Lead with relevance, not a rehearsed commercial
Let’s be real: your prospect probably doesn’t know you, and they likely don’t care about your product yet. So if you start the conversation with a generic 30-second monologue about your solution, you’ve already lost their attention.
A true Sales Rebel starts with them. Their world, their problems, their language. We educate boldly, connect through relevance, and build immediate relatability. That’s what creates curiosity. That’s what keeps the conversation alive. Forget the pitch. Give them something to lean into.
4. Forget the volume game
I can’t say this loud enough: you don’t need to make 1,000 random dials a day to succeed. If you wanted to grab a drink with a friend, would you write out a list of 100 people and start calling? Of course not. You’d reach out to the people you care about, pick a spot you all enjoy, and go have a great time. That works because there’s no pressure and no transaction, just connection.
Apply that same energy to your sales process. Focus less on “how many” and more on how meaningful. Because at the end of the day, people don’t want another sales process. They want an experience.
So give people an experience, like a Crumpled Letter in a mini trash can, then follow up with them over the phone in an intentional way. Do that with 100 people who you selected with purpose and meaning behind the strategy and you will see much better results.
5. Tell more stories
There’s a reason storytelling works. Stories engage our emotions, trigger imagination, and build empathy. They create meaning where data can’t.
When you share stories truthfully and with intention, you give your prospect something to connect to. You invite them into a very relevant and highly engaging world, even if just for a moment. And when they step into that story, they drop their guard. They see your humanity. And they start to trust you.
6. Serve first. Period.
You don’t need a clever CTA. You don’t need a slick close. What you need is a mindset of service. Go the extra mile. Not because it “moves the needle,” but because it’s the right thing to do.
Show up for your prospects the way you’d want someone to show up for you. Give them a better experience than they were expecting. Make them feel seen, heard, and understood. That’s how you build trust. And trust is not just how you build clients, but lifelong fans of your work and your mission.
That’s my playbook. It’s not glamorous. It’s not easy. And it sure as hell isn’t the status quo. But it works. Because it’s built on what actually matters.
